How to Get Rid of Cockroaches for Good

There are few pests more pervasive or annoying than cockroaches. They can live on nearly any type of material and survive in a wide range of conditions. Once you have them in your home, you’ll have to work very hard to finally get rid of them. If you have these pests living in your house, make sure that you follow the steps below to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Keep it Clean

The best thing that you can do is clean up your house as much as possible. Don’t leave any food out, papers, garbage or animal feces. Make sure that your house is as spotless as possible, because a messy home is one of the main causes of roaches. The cleaner you can keep your house, the less likely you are to suffer from an infestation at all.

Remove Water Sources

Put those pet bowls up, make sure that the sink doesn’t have standing water, fix the leaky faucets and remove any other sources of water around your house. Cockroaches can’t survive without water, and it’s up to you to make sure they don’t have access to any while living in your home. If you can cut it all off they will quickly leave.

Tuna at Entrances

Cockroaches hate tune for some reason. Put a bit of tuna around possible entrances that the roaches are using. This will help keep them away nicely.

Mop Often

It’s important that you mop any hard floors around your home several times a week if you have roaches. This helps keep food from accumulating on the floors. Just make sure you dry them as well, because the mop water is helpful to roaches.

Bait Traps

Bait traps are one of the best ways to kill off cockroaches. The pests get into the bait and then bring it back to where they live. A single roach can kill off dozens of others with bait on him, which is good news for you.

Water Jars

Lay out some mason jars with water in them. The roaches will climb in and get stuck without the ability to get back out. This will kill a surprising number of roaches.

Pesticide Sprays

It’s good to kill off any roaches that you see, and a good pesticide spray will do that well. This spray will also make the roaches less likely to travel through one section of your home, so spray any known pathways that you find. Just keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Spray Bombs

Spray bombs are an effective way to take out roaches that are near the surface of your home. If you bomb your house regularly, you’ll make it less desirable to live there overall, and you’ll kill off a large number of the little guys as well. It’s important to note that these bombs won’t get rid of the infestation on their own.

Professional Help

Once you’ve tried most of these methods it’s time to move on to hiring a professional to get rid of the roaches. A skilled professional will understand how to deal with an infestation and will have more success getting rid of them than you are. It’s important to get help as soon as possible to make sure that they don’t multiply too much.
