Pest Control for Mosquitoes

We’re all familiar with the annoying buzz of mosquitoes.  These pests bite you, feast on your blood and multiply quickly.  Where there is one, there are often dozens, if not hundreds more.  You can walk outside and be bitten several times in only a matter of minutes, making your time outdoors in the beautiful Florida evenings very difficult.  If you have an infestation of mosquitoes in your yard, invading your personal spaces and driving you and your loved ones indoors, it may be time to call in your local pest control specialists.

Mosquitoes Carry Disease

Mosquito bites are itchy and irritating, which can lead to some extreme discomfort, especially when you have multiple at the same time.  Witch hazel or other ointments can help to lessen the itching, but you don’t want to keep running to the medicine cabinet every time you come in from the outdoors.  Some people can suffer allergic reactions to mosquito bites, which can make the discomfort unbearable.  Not only that, but some mosquitoes carry diseases, such as West Nile and Zika, spreading them like wildfire.

Protect Yourself

Mosquitoes like to inhabit places with standing water.  For this reason, you should get rid of all sources of standing water – turn over buckets, dump out swings and regularly change birdbaths.  In Florida, getting rid of all standing water can be difficult, since the climate is hot and humid.  Because of this, damp ground does not dry effectively, making it the perfect climate to host these annoying pests.

There are plenty of repellants you can use as well to keep mosquitoes from coming near you and your home.  Bug sprays applied to your skin can deter them from approaching and biting.  Citronella candles and certain herbs and plants – lavender, lemongrass, peppermint and marigolds – can prevent mosquitoes from approaching certain areas.

These methods of pest control can help alleviate the problem, but they’re not 100% effective and they only repel, they don’t kill.  Mosquitoes can still cause trouble for you, your loved ones and your pets.

Call in the Pros

No matter how much pest management measures you try to employ yourself, it’s very difficult to completely eradicate a mosquito problem alone, and the mosquitoes just keep coming back.  Your local pest control company can locate the sources of your mosquito infestations and eliminate them, preventing new infestations from taking hold.

If you have a mosquito problem, don’t suffer.  Call in your local Melbourne, Cocoa or Cocoa Beach pest management company today and get back to enjoying those beautiful Florida nights.
