How to Prevent Spiders

In this article we are going to go over some simple steps you can take to prevent spiders from coming into your house. Your home may never be “spider-proof” but it can be spider resistant.

In the United States there are over 3400 species of spider.

As you know, insects are everywhere, especially where humans are. And one rule of thumb is that wherever there are insects, there are spiders. Spiders eat insects.

You probably have heard some people say that they don’t mind spiders because spiders eat insects. If you are anything like me, I would rather have an insect in my house than creepy spiders. A giant wolf spider hanging on your wall is enough to startle even the most ardent spider fan.

Here are the immediate steps you can take to prevent spiders:

Trim Brush and Overgrowth Around Home

Plant growth around your house is how spiders get onto your home. They hang from their web until the wind swings them onto it. Generally, it is a good idea to keep up with lawn maintenance when preventing most types of pests from entering your home. Keep brush and trees at least three inches clear of the home.

Seal Doors and Windows

Spiders often make their way in through cracks around doors and windows. Now may be the time inspect this sealant and see if it needs replacement. Patch any structure cracks with caulk.

Prevent Insects that Lure Spiders

As we mentioned before, spiders eat bugs. They love eating ants. Often the bigheaded ant will scatter its dead worker ants outside the nest to discard them. This ends up attracting spiders by the dozen. You will want to prevent ants from entering your home.

Remove Webs When You See Them

Spiders expend a lot of energy building their web. If you remove them as often as they make them then they may have an energy deficit and decide to leave your area for easier hunting grounds.

USE Sticky Traps

Spider traps are available in your local super market. You can place them in the corner and over time it will gather spiders. This will give you an idea of how many and what kind of spiders you are dealing with. It will obviously also reduce the spiders that are roaming around in your home.

PEST CONTROL AGENT

If you want the job done right, hire a professional pest agent. This is what they do. They can skip all the mistakes and jump right to the problem.
