Anyone who lives in Brevard County Florida knows Titusville. Many people may think that its name was derived as a result of the space program and their use of names like Titan, Titus, Mercury and Atlas. But, it was actually named for Henry T. Titus, explorer and soldier of fortune.
Originally, the area was inhabited by Ais Indians before being owned by the Spanish. The Spanish sold the land to the United States in 1821.
