More About Roaches

You wake up in the middle of night and get up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. As you open your cabinet to grab a glass, you see movement. After quickly flipping on the light, you see a roach running from the unexpected light. It’s the first time you have ever seen a roach in your home. What do you do now that you probably won’t be able to fall back asleep? How do you keep one roach from turning into hundreds if not thousands?!

The first couple of things to do after your sleepless night, are determine where the roaches are entering your home and how big of a problem you might have. The sight of one roach can be indicative of a much bigger problem as a roach’s feces leave a chemical trail which tells other roaches to follow. German roaches, one of the most common species in the United States, are attracted to warm places with access to food and water. So a dripping sink with dirty dishes left in the sink overnight is like a party for these roaches. Keeping a clean and tidy kitchen may be the first thing you want to do. Next you can check inside your cupboards and around big appliances for evidence of an infestation. Roach dropping resemble coffee grounds and can be found in places where they congregate or linger. You can also try putting out sticky strips to see what you catch overnight.

Now that you have done your cleaning and inspection and have found some evidence of more than just that one roach you spotted or maybe you haven’t found anything but want to stop a problem before it starts, it’s time to take some action.
