Owl and humans work together for pest control

Owls Help with Pest Control

Owls are like having your very own pest control agent living in the trees. The more owls you have in your area, the less trouble you will have with small rodents. This is because owls prefer to eat small rodents such as mice or rats over any other food option.

The owl uses its superior stealth and high-end night vision to swoop down and scoop up the unsuspecting rodent. The powerful claws of the owl dig into the pest and kill it within seconds.

It was once said jokingly that if owls got together and started their own pest control company that they would be in high demand. This is a funny way of saying they do a good job of scooping up the little pests around your home.

How to Attract Owls to Your Yard

You can attract owls to make your backyard their home by having lots of trees and plants. They like using the trees and plants to sit on and to camouflage themselves.

You can also create nesting spots for them by purchasing one or making a nesting box of your own. If you build it, they will come.

Owls and Humans

The owl has lived alongside humans for thousands of years. For the most part we leave one another alone and have a symbiotic relationship. They keep our area clear of pests and are mostly heard and not seen. And even their trademark “hoo hoo” noise isn’t very invasive and some people find it very soothing.

The only time there have been a conflict between the bird and humans is when a humans venture too close to the owls nest during very precarious moments in offspring rearing. And even then an owl may just leave a few scratches on the invasive human, but nothing deadly.
